Technology and Material Analysis

This project made up of two parts, one focussed on the staircase research and model, the other on materiality and architectural component research. The material and component research was really beneficial for my future projects as it helped me to have a more in depth understanding of structural and construction techniques. This in depth study helped me to not just understand the materials and components themself, but how they are manufactured. I made a 1:20 model of Carlo Scarpa’s Olivetti Showroom staircase from scrap MDF to get a much better understanding of its design elements.
